An AM5 motherboard is chosen by its chipset first, because it sets what the board can do. B650 boards cover the essentials and accept every Ryzen on the platform; B850 adds PCIe 5.0 for storage and newer connectivity; X870 targets USB4 and the high end. Next, look at the number of M.2 slots: two are enough for a system drive and a game library, three leave some room. Networking matters too: Wi-Fi 6E or 7 saves you an expansion card, and 2.5 Gb/s wired is becoming standard. Finally, the form factor must match the case: an ATX board needs a tower, a micro-ATX one fits almost anywhere. All these boards use DDR5 and will accept future AM5 processors after a BIOS update.
